Jeff Wayne’s ‘The War of The Worlds’ Musical Drama
This is already up as a losslessly ripped M4B which you can find here, https://fullcastaudio.org/abss/jeff-waynes-the-war-of-the-worlds-the-musical-drama-h-g-wells-jeff-wayne/
In this version I have made a continuous mix which does away with the chapter break gaps which tend to ruin the flow and grind the production to a halt on a regular basis.
Also included is the original rock album version, also in a continuous mix, eliminating the gap between discs.
The file has appropriate artwork and is fully chapetized, with proper gapless chapter boundaries (something Audible never seems to get right).

Awesomeness at its finest. Thank you!

You’re welcome.
I found the original chapter breaks really deflated the momentum, a bit like watching a network TV series on Netflix, with all the redundant ‘fade to black for commercials’ peppered all the way though.
I’m pretty happy with the blends, some of them work better than others and some work so well they are hard to locate just by listening (though the chapterization makes them easy to locate)

My brother bought me the original album back in the 1970’s and to a kid who loved everything rock and sci-fi, it was a revelation. Richard Burton’s narration accompanied by Jeff Wayne’s score, was simply magic. This will be a fun reminiscent listen. Many thanks for all of your work compiling this.

Thanx for this…

I echo Mikassa’s assessment: this will be fun!
Thanks for the fixes and the upload, PrettyRandom.

I know that they were slowly and surely drawing up plans against us - with their envious eyes and all - but you’d think that the mean ole malign Martians would have thought to research the whole pathogen situation. As smart as they were. Especially given that they were watching keenly and closely, and were in possession of intelligences greater than ours.
Great stuff prettyrandom!

caesar963: Unfortunately most of the research they did before the invasion was from just one source and it lead them to believe the Earth was Mostly Harmless.

Right, prettyrandom. When this was written, pathogens were just beginning to be understood. In today’s world, H.G. Wells would have the Martians first employ undetectable spy satellites to observe and infiltrate the internet, gather all they know, then disperse humanity with information gathering chimeras before physically exposing themselves to any potentially known/unknown pathogens….. but then we have the vision of hindsight. :~)

…or they could’ve just been as dumb as a box of Martian rocks. Or 42.

I remember working in a record store when this came out, and it was great listening to it blast over the 4 speakers in each corner of the store. Behind the counter we had one of those behemoth Sansui receivers that pumped out real sound. People would come in, and not speak to each other because of the wonderful story and narration. They were transfixed by this album. Can’t wait to hear it again. Thank you so much!

Thank You!!

Thankyou for all your work on this. Now all I need is to find a working mp4->mp3 converter. All the ones I have found either miss out half the files, or stop half way, or crash…

How is a converter even an issue? This isnt 2000, its 2020. Why are you not using VLC? or MPC-HC? Or really ANY MEDIA PLAYER EVER? Because they all support playing mp3s, m4bs, flac, etc…You dont need converters. And M4Bs and Mp3s are intercovertable in pretty much any software made for the last 15 years. Is someone using a 20year old computer?
I have never had any problems with gaps between chapters with Audible, maybe its whatever your using to rip/convert your audible downloads. Thats usually a setting in the software, I know it is in inAudible. I have this release from Audible as well, and the m4b I made doesnt have any problems. None of the audiodrama (mostly what I get with Audible) has had that issue when ripping properly.

“I have never had any problems with gaps between chapters with Audible, maybe its whatever your using to rip/convert your audible downloads.”
Maybe you aren’t downloading books where the content continues over the chapter boundary?
All I know is that EVERY Star Wars & Doctor Who book I have ever bought from Audible, that has music bridging a chapter boundary, also has a micro gap breaking up the flow at the boundary. This is true even playng the original unconverteded axx file.
These gaps are tiny, maybe less than a tenth of a second, but they are always there, without exception in my experience.

Almost everything ive downloaded from Audible (probably 90% or more of the couple hundred releases ive purchased on Audible) is an audio drama, so it almost always goes past chapter boundaries (as they are usually artificially added just to break up a release, not because there are actual chapters). Maybe its because your talking about audio books and not audio dramas like this. Id expect audiobooks with music (like star wars books, star wars books, some doctor who books) to have chapter breaks with minor delays, because there are actual chapters.
Weird. Maybe if its only a tenth of a second I never noticed. After all, that is no longer then a normal break between words, or taking a breath, or whatever. Maybe its just not long enough to notice on my part. All I know is that usually it ask if you want delays between chapters or not while ripping and I always have it off by default and have never noticed anything in my rips (or while playing them with the Audible app, either on my phone or my laptop).

Hi guys. Been looking on the Audible site about this and I can’t find if this is abridged anywhere. The standard recording I have is around 8 hours, and this checks in at 5ish. Can I assume this is abridged then?
